2014 Resolutions January Check-in!

As promised, this is my monthly check in on how my resolutions are going. I’ve had quite a bit of success this first month, but also a few things that I could improve on. I struggled a little bit with consistency this month and also adjusted things a bit as I went on.

1. Use a face or hair mask at least once a week.

I didn’t do one EVERY week, but I have done three this month, which I think is a win. Still trying to focus on this though. I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my skin and hair after using masks.

2. Write at least three pages a week.

This I did, although it was a bit of a struggle and I’m hoping to get into more of a routine with it in February.

3. Read one book a month.

I actually read a ton of books this month, including The Hunger Games and the Divergent series (both very good). This month I’m starting on Emma by Jane Austen.

4. Lose 100 pounds.

I’m well on my way! I lost 11.8 lbs in January. I had a whole set of “guidelines” for myself that you can check out on my post here. Some of them I stuck to and they were very useful, but some I’ve modified a bit. The most useful things I’ve found are making dinner from scratch every night (rather than take-out or something processed) which has actually been super fun. Also, instead of imposing limits on how much cheese and bread I have, I find it more useful just to try to eat a variety of types of food. So basically, don’t have bread for breakfast and bread for lunch. Also the guidelines I’ve followed to the letter: Don’t keep junk foods in the house and don’t have fast food. This has also saved me a bunch of money, haha, so it’s definitely worth it!

One other thing that I’ve found helpful is to have things that I can snack on, if I need to, like carrots and hummus, or sweet things like low fat chocolate pudding or hazelnut coffee.

5. Monthly resolutions blog post

So all in all I think I’ve done pretty well and I am still motivated to keep these things going and I am super excited for the rest of the year!

Did you make resolutions? Have you stuck to them so far? It’s not too late!
